A number of bands and lenses of carbonatite up to 35 m thick lies conformably in mica and hornblende gneisses, and are cut by feldspar-rich pegmatites. An outcrop of sodalite syenite occurs just to the northeast of the area. Outcrop is sparse and the area difficult of access because of thick timber and underbrush. The carbonatite is a mainly coarse, dolomitic rock but calcite also occurs. Accessory minerals include vermiculite, biotite, magnetite, olivine, ilmenite, green amphibole, zircon, pyrrhotine, pyrite, uranian pyrochlore, in crysals up to 4 cm in diameter, and uranian columbite. A full analysis of separated pyrochlore is given by Hogarth (1961, Table 2).

Economic: 
Some uranian pyrochlore and columbite is present (Rowe, 1958, Tables 1 and 2). Samples assayed by St Eugene Mining ranged from 0.01 to 0.11% Nb with an average of 0.05% Nb, 0.007% U3O8 and 5% apatite (A.N. Mariano, personal communication, 1985).
