Within siliceous volcanogenic rocks of upper Cretaceous to Palaeogene age basalts occur with compositions varying from normal alkaline to weakly alkaline. The former comprise about one-third of the sequence and include analcime-bearing varieties. Bodies of essexite gabbro have been discovered which contain plagioclase (labradorite-bytownite), clinopyroxene, olivine and analcime.

Assumed to be Quaternary.
